PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device capable of maintaining aimed image quality and shortening self-check time. SOLUTION: In a detection method for detecting the developing ability A of a developing device, the developing ability is detected by forming latent image patterns 30a, 30b, 30c,... consisting of a gradation pattern the same as a detection method for detecting the developing ability B. The development γof the developing device is calculated and compared with thresholds X and Y so as to judge whether or not a toner replenishing mode and a toner consuming mode are started. Both detection, such as, detecting the developing ability A for judging whether or not the toner replenishing mode and the toner consuming mode are required and detecting the developing ability B for controlling potential are simultaneously performed by a reflection density sensor 205. When the toner replenishing mode and the toner consuming mode are required, the detected result on the developing ability A of the developing device is used as the detected result on the developing ability B for controlling the potential as it is. Thus, the self-check time in the case the ordinary toner replenishing mode and the toner consuming mode are not required is drastically shortened. |
