PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and cost-effective method for producing amide(s), applicable on an industrial scale. SOLUTION: This method for producing a monofunctional amide, bifunctional amide and/or polyfunctional amide of the formula (1a): R1-CO-NR2R3 and/or the formula (1b): R4R5N-CO-R6-CO-NR2R3 (wherein, R1 is H, alkyl, alkenyl or alkynyl; R2 to R5 are each H, alkyl or aryl; R6 is a branched-chain, straight- chain or cyclic alkylene group, aromatic arylene group or heteroaromatic ring) comprises reaction between aldehyde(s) and amide(s) in the presence of a transition metal catalyst and an oxidizing agent.
