Martensitic steel contains max 0.035% C; 1-10% alloying elements, esp. 0.5-5% Cr. A pref. steel composition is 0.02% C; 1% Mn; 4% Cr and 0.25% Nb; balance Fe. USE/ADVANTAGE - In the cryogenic field, oil industry, land, air and sea vehicles, nuclear plants, construction industry. The low C-content ensures that the hardening occurring during the pre or post heating during a welding operation remains relatively small.
