In a device for rotating, for example, workpieces to be machined on a support which is to be set in rotation by a pinion shaft (30) with tooth strips (34) via a toothed rack (18), the toothed rack (18) is to be arranged in a cylinder bore (2) of a housing (1) in a slidable manner at right angles to an axis of the pinion shaft (30) between caps (3, 4) closing the cylinder bore (2). Pistons (8, 9) provided in each case at each end of the toothed rack (18) form with one cap (3, 4) a chamber (11, 12) to which pressure medium can be admitted. The tooth strips (34) of the pinion shaft (30) mesh with the toothing (28) of the toothed rack (18) between the two pistons (8, 9).
