PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that color images are not accurately superimposed one on the other on an intermediate transfer belt due to synchronization detection signal variations. SOLUTION: The apparatus has a synchronization detecting means that detects a light beam from an exposure optical system 11 and outputs a synchronization detection signal, and a belt position detecting means 9 that detects a position of the intermediate transfer belt 2. The apparatus also has a control means that controls the position of the intermediate transfer belt 2 based upon a signal from the belt position detecting means 9 and the synchronization detection signal from the synchronization detecting means. |
