NEW NAD+-DEPENDENT TYPE ALCOHOL DEHYDROGENASE AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To obtain a new NAD<+>-dependent type alcohol dehydrogenase effective in producing an aldehyde useful as a synthetic intermediate for medicines, etc. CONSTITUTION:This new NAD<+>-dependent type alcohol dehydrogenase is capable of manifesting the following physico-chemical properties: (1) action: oxidizing an alcohol into an aldehyde using the NAD<+> as a coenzyme; (2) substrate specificity: oxidizing a 2-12C n-alcohol into an n-aldehyde having the same number of carbon atoms; (3) optimum pH: 9-9.5; (4) optimum temperature: 50 deg.C and (5) molecular weight: 102 kDa. Furthermore, a method for producing the enzyme is provided.
