PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve image quality by aligning areas of original images which are exposed with respect to each primary photosensor array. SOLUTION: In the case of a color input scanner that obtains a digital signal from a full color original image, a sensor bar which has three parallel photosensor arrays that separately correspond to different primary colors is moved with respect to the original image in the direction of scanning. The timing for the exposure of the photosensor in each array is determined accurately in each scan cycle, so that the optical center of gravity in each exposed area of the original image for all the primary color photosensors are overlapped over one other.
