The invention relates to cinnamylidene camphor derivatives of the formula (1) in which the diene system is in the configuration Z,Z; Z,E; E,Z or E, E and R<1> is H, CH3, R<2> is C1-C6 alkyl, C1-C6 alkoxy, halogen, NR<3>H, NR<3>2, R<3> is C1-C4 alkyl, R<4> is H, C1-C6 alkyl, and n is 1, 2, and their use as UV-A protecting agents, especially in cosmetical and pharmaceutical formulations.
