A single-mode optical conductor consists of an optical fibre (12) covered with a primary layer (14) which is itself surrounded by a secondary layer with an outer section (18) of a thermoplastic material with an apparent viscosity at melting point of no more than about 100 Pa/secat a shearing speed of at least 100 s-1. The thermoplastic material is selected from a group comprising: polyamides, polyolefins, polyesters, polyethers and copolymers of a number of these. In particular it is a polyamide selected from: polyamide 12, polyamide 6, polyamide 6/6 or a compound of these. The outer diameter of the secondary layer's outer section is some 245 microns, while the outer diameter of the layer's inner section (14) is about 200 microns.
