The invention relates to a device for transporting and handling microtiter plates. The term microtiter plate applies to standardized supports for samples that are examined or treated in order to develop active pharmaceutical ingredients or carry out medical diagnoses or the like. The inventive device is preferably designed for use in high throughput screening, diagnoses and/or combinatory chemistry and comprises modules (M1, M2, M3, M4, M5) with means for preparing samples and/or introducing samples and/or optical reading and/or storage of plates and/or means for further processing or reading steps. It is fitted with an inner modular transport system for transporting the microtiter plates (MTP) between the various means, in addition to at least one central transport system (TS) for asynchronous transfer of plates between individual modules (M1, M2, M3, M4, M5) via input and output buffers (EAP). |
