PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve normal operation by uniformizing a raw material-filled degree in a crushing chamber in a short time to stabilize a load by a method wherein after storing the raw material of an amount to be filled in the crushing chamber once in the raw material charging part at the start or restart of a gyratory crusher, the stored raw material is charged at once into the crushing chamber. SOLUTION: At the start of a gyratory crusher, each hydraulic cylinder 15 and respective double doors 14 at a bottom end of a raw material charging cylinder 12 are closed by pushing up. Then, a raw material W such as a rock, an ore or the like conveyed by a belt conveyor 13 is introduced into the raw material charging cylinder 12, and the raw material W of an amount filled in a crushing chamber between a concave 7 and a mantle 6 is stored once. Thereafter, respective hydraulic cylinders 15, 15 are driven reversely, respective double doors 14 are opened both sides downward by pulling down, and the raw material W stored in the raw material charging cylinder 12 is charged into at once into the crushing chamber. Further, the raw material W corresponding to a crushing amount following start of operation of the gyratory crusher is successively charged into an upper cover 8 through the raw material charging cylinder 12, and the raw material W is always filled in the crushing chamber.
