PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a light protectant having a high absorbance in the UV-A region, being light-stable, having a sharp bend structure, being soluble in an oil or water dependent on the substituent, and intended for cosmetics and medicines by using an amino-substituted hydroxybenzophenone. SOLUTION: The amino-substituted hydroxybenzophenone represented by the formula is used alone or in combination with other compounds having absorptions in the UV-A region and intended for cosmetics and medicinal preparations as a light-stable UV filter for use in cosmetics or medicinal preparations for protecting the human skin or hair from sunlight. In the formula, R1 and R2 are each H, a 1-20C alkyl, a 2-10C alkenyl, a 3-10C cycloalkyl, or the like; R3 and R4 are each a 1-20C alkyl, a 3-10C cycloatkyl, a 1-12C alkoxyl, a 1-20C alkoxycarbonyl, or the like; X is H, COOR5, or CONR6R7; R5 to R7 are each H, a 1-20C alkyl, or the like; m is 0-3; and n is 0-4.
