A skateboard 10 having an elongated board 11, a pair of trucks 14,15 and a pair of wheels 12,13. Each truck 14,15 includes a wheel support 20 pivotably associated with the elongated board 11 and a spring 21 connected to the wheel support 20 for resisting pivoting of the wheel support 20 relative to the elongated board 11. Each wheel 12,13 is rotatably mounted to the wheel support 20 in any suitable manner such as by an axle 16,17 or the like. In a preferred embodiment, the wheel support 20 includes a pair of fork members 25,26 engaged with the axle 16,17. The truck 14,15 permits rotation of the wheel support 20 relative to the elongated board 11 in response to a shift in the weight of the rider of the board to simulate, for example, a snowboarding effect. The wheel supports 20 desirably are raked in opposite directions to facilitate a fishtail effect or to otherwise facilitate a carving effect. Each truck 14,15 includes a base 22 rigidly secured to the elongated board 11 rotatably associateing the wheel support 20 with the elongated board 11. The spring 21 desirably engages the wheel support 20 and the base 22 for resisting pivoting of the wheel support 20 relative to the base 22. In a preferred embodiment, the spring 21 includes an elastomer having a substantially cylindrical configuration. Each truck 14,15 may further include a housing 24 that desirably receives the spring 21, and the springs 21 can be readily removed and replaced with springs of different resistance to affect the performance characteristics of the board. |
