PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone capable of easily preventing a reception interruption when starting an application on which a user intends to concentrate. SOLUTION: The portable telephone has an automatic mode-transition setting means having a normal receivable mode and an off-line mode conducting no reception by stopping the transmission of radio waves, or an absent mode conducting an absent processing in the case of a reception and setting the off-line mode or the absent mode during the operation of the application. The portable telephone further has an application starting means for storing contents set by the automatic mode-transition setting means and starting the application by selection instruction, and an automatic mode-transition discriminating means for discriminating whether or not the settings of the off-line mode or the absent mode are stored in the setting-data storage on the basis of the selection instruction at the application starting means. When the off-line mode or the absent mode is discriminated by the automatic mode-transition discriminating means, a mode can be transferred automatically from the normal mode to the off-line mode or the absent mode when the application is started.
