PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric sensor capable of stably detecting a detected object whose moving speed can change. SOLUTION: The photoelectric sensor 10 performs detecting operation by comparing a threshold X with light receiving amount level differences A1-A5 between light receiving amount level Dn at the present sampling timing and each of light receiving amount levels (Dn-2, Dn-3, Dn-5, Dn-9, Dn-17) at a plurality of sampling timings (n-2, n-3, n-5, n-9, n-17) before it at every sampling timing. Regarding the detected object W coming into a detection region H in various patterns, any of the light receiving amount level differences A1-A5 every "jump" exceeds the threshold X.
