PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film usable for various kinds of display devices such as a liquid crystal display device (LCD), especially a protective film for a polarizing plate usable for the display devices; to provide a method for producing the optical film useful for a phase difference film by which the high-quality optical film containing no foreign matter and having high surface smoothness can be obtained while preventing a film attached to the inner wall of a dissolving vessel in a dissolving step of a cellulose ester which is a raw material of the optical film from being formed to prevent the plugging of a barrier filter; and to provide a polarizing plate using the optical film. SOLUTION: The solvent is dropped so as to form a cylindrical solvent flow in the dissolving vessel 1, and a polymer powder is charged to the inside of the cylindrical solvent flow so that the polymer powder may not be brought into contact with the wall surface of the vessel 1 at the upper part of the upper surface of the polymer solution stored in the vessel 1 in the polymer-dissolving step of the method for producing the optical film by a solution-casting film-forming method.
