WHITE LIGHT EMITTING DEVICE

A white light emitting device is provided to downsize the device which can emit white light without using a package containing phosphor, by using europium silicate for a wavelength converting film. A white light emitting device includes a light emitting structure(150) formed on a substrate(101). The light emitting structure has an n-type semiconductor layer(102), an active layer(103) formed on the n-type semiconductor layer, and a p-type semiconductor layer(104) formed on the active layer. An n-side electrode(105) is formed on an exposed portion of the n-type semiconductor layer, and a p-side electrode(106) is formed on the p-type semiconductor layer. A wavelength converting film(107) of europium silicate is formed under the substrate.
