The method involves guiding transmission light rays for detection of objects in a monitoring area. The switching status of the object identification signal is displayed as a status message. The optical path of the transmission light rays (4) is changed by positioning a light beam deflecting unit (12). The conditional change of the status message is consulted for controlling the adjustment of the transmission light rays. An independent claim is included for an aligning mechanism for executing the method.
