PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external gear pump capable of reducing pressure loss of working fluid.SOLUTION: In a side plate, provided are a first relief part that when a closing area is in an expansion step with rotation of each gear, communicates a closed area and a low pressure chamber, and extends in a linear direction connecting the rotational shafts of the respective gears, and/or a second relief part that when the closed area is in a compression step, communicates the closed area and a high pressure chamber, and extends in the linear direction connecting the rotational shafts of the respective gears.
