PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium secondary battery having lithium/transition metal compound oxide as positive electrode active material and a carbonaceous material as negative electrode active material, while also having excellent cycle and shelf life characteristics, particularly at high temperatures, by inhibiting reaction between the carbonaceous material which is the negative electrode active material and the electrolyte. SOLUTION: The lithium secondary battery includes a positive electrode which uses lithium/transition metal compound oxide as active material, a negative material which uses a carbonaceous material as active material, and a nonaquenous electrolyte obtained by dissolving a lithium salt into an organic solvent. The nonaqueous electrolyte contains at least one kind of polycyclic sulfone compound which is electrochemically decomposed at or below a battery working voltage to form a film on the surface of the negative electrode. |
