PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sensor control device and its method capable of suppressing damage of a detection element by water, while suppressing elongation of required time from start of an internal combustion engine to detection of a specific gas in controlling a gas sensor having a protector.SOLUTION: A sensor control device controls energization to a heater over an after-heating time W2 after stop of an internal combustion engine (time t3) by implementing heater control after stop without stopping energization control to the heater immediately after the stop of the internal combustion engine in sensor control processing. As accumulation of water droplets inside of the protector by the time of next start of the internal combustion engine after the stop of the internal combustion engine can be suppressed, damage of a detection element by thermal shock of water can be suppressed while suppressing elongation of required time from start to detection of a specific gas.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
