PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time from starting the stopping process of a hydrogen generator to the completion of purge.SOLUTION: There is provided a hydrogen generator 100 which comprises a reformer 1 for reforming a hydrocarbon-containing raw material to generate a hydrocarbon-containing gas, a raw material gas supplier 2 for supplying the raw material to the reformer 1, a controller 3 which performs normal stop processing or special stop processing different from the normal stop processing and controls to stop the hydrogen generator 100 by supplying the raw material to the reformer 1 as a purge gas, and an input part 4 for inputting from the outside to perform special stop processing, wherein the controller 3 is configured to control so that the stopping time when performing special stop processing is shorter than the stopping time from starting stop processing when performing normal stop processing to the completion of purge of the reformer 1.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
