The difficulties impeding the use of the tensions built into laminates of stretched and unstretched material for the production of curved, resilient articles which resist extension and return to their curved or spiral form when released from stress; are eliminated by a technique which vulcanies and firmly bonds together layers of a normal springy-type elastomer such as rubber and a thermoplastic elastomer. The materials may be made in separate sheets and laid one on the other, and rolled before vulcanising or extruded from twin screws through a single aperture with the desired profile. When bonded, the laminate is stretched, heated evenly throughout and cooled under tension.
|
