PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for traffic information service using position information are provided to give traffic information to a user without a repetitive request of a user by using position information. CONSTITUTION: A terminal selects a traffic information service and a period of transmission(S1) for transmitting position information to a traffic information system. The terminal transmits the selected position information according to the selected period(S2,S3). The traffic information system searches the traffic information by using the position information received from the terminal(S4). The traffic information system transmits the searched result to the terminal if there is the searched result(S5,S6). The traffic information system transmits the position information to a server if there is not the searched result. The terminal reports the received traffic information to a user by using a text, a voice, and an electronic map(S7). The terminal transmits a traffic information service end message(S8).
