The invention relates to an actuator for a throttle butterfly (5) of an internal combustion engine, particularly for adjusting the throttle butterfly over part of its range of adjustment, in which a throttle-butterfly shaft (2) pivotably mounted in a throttle body (1) is connected to the throttle butterfly. The proposal according to the invention is that the actuator should have, running around the throttle body, a return (6) composed of magnetic material, which is provided with one or more excitation windings (7), and that a permanent magnet (11) or a magnetic short-circuit should be attached to or integrated into the throttle butterfly, the said short circuit having poles (N, S) associated with the return. The actuator is distinguished by its particularly simple constructional configuration, operates with little wear and takes up only a little space. Due to the optimum efficiency of the actuator in the region of small deflection angles of the throttle butterfly, the adjusting device according to the invention is particularly suitable for controlling the idle-speed range of the internal combustion engine. A further development of the invention envisages that the part-load and full-load range of the internal combustion engine should be controlled by means of a separate actuator, for example by means of a Bowden cable. <IMAGE>
