Universal electric motor for electric power tool

The motor has a commutator and a field winding (24,26) in series with the armature winding (22) and at least one brake winding (28,29,30,31), for braking the electric motor, upon switching to the braking mode. The brake winding is connected in a separate current path (21) which is only activated by switching to the motor braking mode e.g. via a switching device (S1) with a switch contact (33) in series with the separate current path and a second switch contact (34) for interrupting the main current path.
