PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antistatic agent which comprises a water-soluble sulfo- group-contg. arom. polymer having repeating units such as derived fromα- methylstyrene and repeating units such as derived from a p-styrenesulfonate in a specified molar ratio and having a specified wt. average mol.wt. and which, when compounded into a styrene resin, gives it excellent antistatic properties. SOLUTION: This antistatic agent comprises a water-soluble sulfo-group-contg. arom. polymer which has a wt. average mol.wt. of 1.000-100,000 and comprises 25-75 mol.% repreating units of formula I and 75-25 mol.% repeating units of formula II (R1 and R2 are each H, halogen, or methyl; and M is a mono-, di-, or trialkylalcoholammonium salt). A styrenic resin is compounded with the antistatic agent in an amt. of 1-30 wt.% of the resin to give a resin compsn. having permanent antistatic properties. The repeating unit of formula I is derived from styrene,α-methylstyrene, vinyltoluene, etc.; that of formula II, from a mono-, di-, or triethanolamine salt of p-styrenesulfonic acid, etc. |
