PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an input device which facilitates inputting operation of destination or the like. SOLUTION: For example, when inputting Tokyo Tawer as destination, an arbitrary character indicating arbitrary one character and specific characters 'to, wa' are arranged to input 'to wa' in stead of inputting all of four characters of 'tokyotawa'. On the system side, words of four characters with the first character giving 'ta' and the fourth character 'wa' is searched from a word book and the word having only one condidate is defined as input character to be used for the setting of the destination or the like. When a plurality candidates are given, the descriptions of the candidates are shown in a list on a display device and a user is prompted to select them. In this embodiment, in the operation of inputting the words by the user, the frequency of the confirming of the positions of specified characters requiring time the most is reduced to one at its minimum (normally, twice and preferably triple) thereby enabling shortening of input time. |
