PREFORM FOR FORMING COMPOSITE, ITS PRODUCTION AND COMPOSITE MEMBER USING SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a preform which prevents the reaction of a component causing the reduction of a heat treatment effect in the preform with magnesium and to obtain a composite member using the preform as a reinforcing material. SOLUTION: At least one of particles and whiskers of oxide ceramics capable of reacting with magnesium and a metal oxide are sintered to obtain the objective preform used as the reinforcing material of a composite member. The metal oxide has a standard oxide formation energy not higher than that of magnesium oxide. The preform contains a compd. formed by the reaction of the oxide ceramics with the metal oxide.
