摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong a life of an MR head by releasing the feedback control made for positioning a carriage and stopping the supply of a sense current to a magneto-resistance effect element of the MR head, when a magnetic disk device is in the standby state for operation. SOLUTION: When the standby state for operation of the magnetic disk device without the instruction from a host unit is recognized by an interface and control circuit 11, the feedback control for positioning is released by a servo control circuit 12. Also, by a control circuit 6 for selecting the mode, etc., a recording/reproducing amplifier 5 is controlled so as not to flow the sense current into the magneto-resistance effect element of the MR head. Since the time for making the sense current flow into the magneto-resistance effect element of the MR head 2 is remarkably reduced by this invention, the deterioration of the element property due to the electromigration, etc., is prevented, and life of the element is improved. Thus, the output of the MR head 2 is increased without lowering the reliability. Consequently, the improvement of the performance of the high power magnetic disk device using the MR head 2 is realized.
