PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a foreign matter from being excessively caught with an inexpensive structure when a linear actuator is used in a device for inclining a driven body. SOLUTION: This linear actuator has a nut member 12 engaged with a rotating screw shaft 10a driven by a motor device 7, and a rod 6 displaceable to be extended and contracted in the displacement direction of the nut member. The rod is displaced in the contracting direction, in a state of being pulled by the nut member, and can be released from the nut member and receives the load to be displaceable in the extending direction. In an electric bed, an upper half-side frame is connected with the rod through an approximately L-shaped link 8, and raised by the rod displaced in the pulling direction. When the upper half-side frame is made to fall down, the nut can be released from the rod which may be stopped in a state of catching the foreign matter between the upper half-side frame and a base frame, whereby only the nut member can be displaced, and the further catching of the foreign matter can be prevented.
