CONTROL DEVICE FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE EQUIPPED WITH EXHAUST GAS SENSOR WITH HEATER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for properly controlling a temperature of a heater immediately after engine start to prevent a problem of a crack or breakage of a detection element, in an internal combustion engine having an exhaust pipe including an exhaust gas sensor with heater for heating the detection element. SOLUTION: A moisture adhesion state on a surface of the detection element in the engine start is estimated based on an engine water temperature or the like. If moisture (condensate) may adhere to the surface of the element, the temperature (a heating amount) of the heater immediately after the start is suppressed in a relatively low temperature so as not to rise the temperature rapidly, and a warm-up control is performed to control the temperature of the heater so as not to exceeds a predetermined value of difference in temperature between the inside the detection element near the heater and the surface of the detection element away from the heater.
