PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for effectively regulating the amount of exhaust gas recirculation ("EGR") gas administered to an internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: The system includes a knock sensor 23 coupled to an engine 10 and configured to send a signal corresponding to at least one operating condition of the engine to a controller 25. The controller estimates the amount of EGR gas administered to the engine on the basis of the signal from the knock sensor, and regulates the amount of EGR gas being administered to the engine when the estimated amount of EGR gas is not an effective amount.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
