Provided is an electromagnetic brake device that brakes an elevator hoist, said device having a brake construction with superior compactness and quietness (in particular, reduced release operation noise). This electromagnetic brake (26) comprises: a movable element (5) provided with a brake shoe (8) that brakes a body (15) to be braked via contact therewith, the body (15) to be braked being provided to a hoist (10) for raising and lowering a car (9); and a main body (3) provided with a braking spring (2) that applies a braking force by biasing the movable element (5) toward the body (15) to be braked, and an electromagnetic coil (1) that attracts the movable element (5) against the spring force of the braking spring (2). The brake device (26) for a hoist is characterized by including a metal biasing mechanism (4) that biases the movable element (5) such that, in accordance with the displacement of the movable element (5) from the main body (3) toward the body (15) to be braked, the force acting in the direction opposite the direction of displacement increases in proportion to the displacement from the main body (3) toward the body (15) to be braked. |
