Novel steroids of the formulµ (where each X is Cl or F, R<SP>1</SP> is H or CH 3 , R is -CH 2 - or -CO- and Z is oxo, orα- or #- hydroxy or -acyloxy) are prepared as follows 3-Ols are prepared by reduction of the 3-ones; they may subsequently be acylated. The conversion of compounds (E) to compound (IIIa) is effected via the 6,7-epoxides and the 1α- halomethyl - 6 - halo - 20 - spiroxa - 4,6 - dien- 3-ones; compounds (T) are similarly converted to compounds (V). The novel steroids are stated to be androgen antagonists, of use in the treatment of hyperandrogenic disorders. They may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions with suitable carriers.</p> |
