<p>The regulating potentiometer for controlling either motor speed, heating element current or both is located in the main air stream of the hair drier. By this means a potentiometer of sufficient power dissipation can be accommodated without increasing the size of the appliance. In a typical hair drier assembly the control potentiometer (11) comprising a wire coil (15) and slider (14) is located in the handle between the air inlet (9) and the fan (7). A thumb wheel (12) is attached to the potentiometer by a spindle (13), the wheel projecting through the casing. The control switch (10) in the handle gives "on" and "off", and may also select whether the potentiometer controls the motor (8) or the heater (6).</p> |
