A thermostatic plate for use in electrophoresis apparatus comprises a pair of glass plates 12, 14 mounted in parallel spaced apart relationship by a peripheral sealing strip 16 adhesively bonded to the plates. Heat exchange medium is passed through the chamber formed between the plates 12, 14 from an inlet connecting member 30 to an outlet connecting member 32 along a zig-zag meandering path defined by guide strips disposed between the plates 12, 14. The upper plate 14, which is thinner than the lower plate 12, is made gel-repellent, and receives an abutting thin layer of gel which may be illuminated from beneath the glass plates to permit observation of the migration of substances under examination through the layer. <IMAGE> |
