PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous ink composition for ink jet which is prevented from clogging a filter in an ink channel by enhancing the solubility of a dye and which can maintain and improve the reliability of ink jet even after ink jet is stopped over a long time. SOLUTION: This aqueous ink composition contains a water-soluble colorant, ethylene glycol, water, and at least one compound selected from among compounds represented by formula (1): CnH(2n+1)OY (n is an integer of 6-14; and Y is -SO3Na, -SO3K, -NH2, -COONa, -COOK or -OCH3), formula (2): HOCnH2nOY [n is an integer of 5-13; and Y is the same as in formula (1)], formula (3): CnH(2n+1)OOCCH2Y [n and Y are each the same as in formula (1)], and formula (4): HOCnH2nOOCCH2Y [n and Y are each the same as in formula (2)]. |
