PURPOSE:To obtain a semiconducting device having a large optical operation function effect such as optical switching, optical modulation, optical recording and capable of inter-face integration parallel processing by forming a pair of reflection faces inclined from the substrate face of a device and parallel with each other. CONSTITUTION:Optical waveguide structure is used as an active function area and a pair of reflection faces inclined in parallel are inserted into the front and back of an optical waveguide in order to input/output light vertically to the substrate face of the semiconducting device. For instance, the device is provided with the optical waveguide 1 having the optical operation function such as optical amplification, optical modulation, optical switching, and optical recording and parallel with the substrate face of the device and a pair of reflection faces 2 inclined from the substrate face and parallel with each other. After incidence, input light 6 is reflected by the 1st reflection face 2, led into the optical waveguide 1, and after being projected, reflected by the 2nd reflection face 2 and outputted from an output light extracting window hole 3 as output light 7. Consequently, optical operation processing such as optical amplification, optical modulation, optical switching, and optical recording having a large function activating effect and excellent characteristics can be executed in parallel between the faces. |
