A multi-phase substance is melted in a closed vessel and is allowed to separate under gravity into several phases, which are removed separately in liquid or solid states. Also claimed is a decanting vessel (1) with a removable lid (2) having a means (8) to facilitate removal of at least one separated phase and a closable lower opening (4).
