The invention relates to an overflow device having a channel (2) for storing and clarifying sewage water in the event of heavy rainfall. When the capacity of the overflow device falls short, clarification of the sewage water occurs in the channel (2), and clarified water is discharged from the device. According to the invention the channel (2) comprises a flexible plastic, thereby preventing an open connection with a resulting nuisance of stench. In addition, the device according to the invention can be employed cheaper and with more flexibility.
