PURPOSE: To obtain the subject derivative expressed by a specific formula, having potent angiotensin II receptor antagonistic action, and having sustainable, potent said action and hypotensive action by its oral administration, thus useful as a therapeutic agent for hypertension and circulatory diseases. CONSTITUTION: This compound is expressed by formula I [ring A is benzene ring which bears R' and may have other substituent(s); R<1> is H or a (substituted) hydrocarbon residue; R<2> is a group capable of forming an anion or convertible thereinto; X is such that phenylene and phenyl stand bound mutually either directly or via a spacer <=2 in atom chain member; R' is a (esterified or amidated) carboxyl, group capable of forming an anion or convertible thereinto; Y is O, S(O)m ((m) is 0, 1 or 2) or NR<4> (R<4> is an alkyl)], specifically 2- ethoxy-[[2'-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)biphenyl-4-yl]methyl]benzimidazole-7-car boxylic acid. This compound of formula I is obtained, pref. by reaction between a compound of formula II and a compound of formula III (Z is a halogen). |
