Multinuclear cluster complexes of rhenium or rhodium with phosphines, of formula (I), and their dimeric forms, are new. [M6Q8BnL6-n]x (I). M = Re or Rh; Q = O, S, Se or Te, as a bridging atom; B = monovalent non-bridging atom or moiety; L = P(R)3; R = 1-6C alkyl or aryl (both optionally substituted by water solubilising groups, e.g. amine or hydroxy); or the three R groups together = 6-10C trivalent group, optionally containing up to 3N or O atoms; n = 0-6; and x = -2 to +4, and represents the overall charge of the cluster, which, if not zero, is accompanied by counter ions to balance out the charge. |
