PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a circuit breaker which can enhance current limiting performance while preventing increase in the size of the breaker. SOLUTION: A fixed contact 30 comprises two shunt parts 34, 34 branching from a terminal part 35, a connecting part 33 extending from each end of the shunt parts toward the other ends to be connect with each other, a combining part 32 formed between the two shunt parts, extending from the connecting part 33 to the terminal part 35, and a fixed contact 31 formed at the end part of a terminal part 35 side of the combining part 32. A moving contact 40 comprises an opposed part 42 having a moving contact 41 formed at its end part, being opposed to the combining part 32. The opposed part 42 of the moving contact 40 extends in the direction approaching the connecting part 33 of the fixed contact 30, and this region forms an arc drive part. The current Is flowing in this region generates an electromagnetic force F which guides an arc A to an arc-extinguishing chamber.
