PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the number of part items, by using bolts for joining a head cover to a cylinder head. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine has the head cover 3a joined to the cylinder head 3a by the bolts 37 and 41 and forming a valve system chamber 20 by cooperating with the cylinder head 3a, and a valve system arranged in the valve system chamber 20 and opening and closing an intake valve and an exhaust valve. The valve system has a rocker arm shaft 28 held by a cam holder 29b arranged on the cylinder head 3a in the valve system chamber 20 and rockably supporting a rocker arm.
