A unit for feeding tubular pieces of sheet in machines for the production of cans or the like (1) comprises a pusher element (2) able to move from a first position (5) in which the pusher element (2) engages with the cans, to a second position (6) in which the pusher element (2) is disengaged from the cans, along a thrust trajectory (7) extending along a feed path for the cans. The pusher element (2) can also move away from the second, disengagement position (6) along a release trajectory (8) which comprises a component parallel with and opposite to the thrust trajectory (7) to insert the tubular pieces (T) in a welding station with greater precision and in a direction which is perfectly straight and parallel with the direction of infeed into the welding station.
