<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide an occupant detection system capable of restraining erroneous detection caused by an external factor such as wetting of a seat. <P>SOLUTION: This occupant detection system of the present invention is an occupant detection system having an antenna electrode arranged on a seating part of a seat in a vehicle, and an electric power source means connected to the antenna electrode and the vehicle, for applying a load current to the antenna electrode to generate very weak electric field, and for detecting a potential current flowing through the antenna electrode, calculates an impedance and a phase difference or an admittance, based on the load current and the potential current, and detects an occupant on the seat, based on the calculated impedance and phase difference or admittance.
