PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the caking of blast furnace slag, especially water-granulated blast furnace slag formed by quenching molten slag with water, which is a by-product in a step of pig iron production in a blast furnace as one of steelmaking processes in e.g., steelworks. SOLUTION: This invention provides a method for treating water-granulated blast furnace slag comprising adding particulate solid carbon dioxide (dry ice) having a sphere-equivalent diameter (as calculated from mass and specific gravity) of 15 mm or larger to water-granulated slag. This method exhibits sufficient effect of suppressing the hydration and caking of water-granulated slag without requiring large-scale equipment and therefore can be easily applied also to the existing water granulation plants for water-granulated slag.
