PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an opening and closing device capable to reducing possibility of an excessive load applied on an objective article even when the objective article is held between a main body and an opening and closing part. SOLUTION: This opening and closing device to drive a monitor part is furnished with a clutch to decide the upper limit of driving force transmitted to the driven side from the driving side by a sliding load and a sliding load variable mechanism to adjust the sliding load of the clutch. The sliding load variable mechanism has a mechanism part to generate the sliding load to the clutch and a control unit to carry out monitor part closing processing. The monitor part closing processing computes an opening and closing angle of the monitor part (S110) in accordance with a detection result of an opening and closing angle detection sensor, provides the sliding load (small sliding load when an opening and closing angle is large, and large sliding load when the opening and closing angle is small)(S120) from a sliding load corresponding table, and drives the mechanism part (S130) so that the sliding load of the clutch matches the provided sliding load.
