PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a var compensator and control method for the var compensator that suppress DC-biased magnetization of a transformer.SOLUTION: According to an embodiment, there is provided a var compensator comprising a transformer, main circuit unit, voltage detector, current detector, and control unit. The transformer is connected to a power system. The main circuit unit includes: a reactor connected to the secondary side of the transformer; a first switching element connected in series to the reactor; and a second switching element connected in antiparallel to the first switching element. The voltage detector detects a voltage of the power system. The current detector detects current flowing in the transformer. The control unit controls reactive power to be applied to the power system by changing a control angle for ON/OFF of the first and second switching elements depending on the voltage detector's detection result and the current detector's detection result. The control unit detects a variation in the control angle and corrects the control angle on the basis of a result of detecting the variation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
